This summer the Keck Collaboratory is hosting three undergraduates interested in working in the science we do at the lab. Renee Renn, a COSEE student, will be joining Jim McManus and April Abbott on the Oceanus for a short cruise off the Oregon coast: trying to recover sediments and pore water for elemental and isotopic analyses. You can follow Renee’s exploits at her blog (http://coseeppprime.blogspot.com/2013). Daisy Castillo, an REU student, will be working with Brian Haley on a joint project with colleagues in a joint investigation of the interactions between microbes and geochemistry. Daisy will be busy in a lab experiment and up to her knees in the mud at Yaquina Bay! Last, but not least, Kevin Kovalchik, also an REU student, will be looking into the process of shell formation for larval oysters with an eye to how ocean acidification may affect their futures. Kevin is working with George Waldbusser (CEOAS).
